(A) REMINGTON MODEL 1863 ZOUAVE PERCUSSION RIFLE.
Approximately 12,500 were produced under Federal contract during the Civil War by Remington, this unissued condition example remains in classic configuration. Rifle is fitted with a rust blued "STEEL" marked barrel proofed and dated "1863" at the breech. Blade front sight and 3-lead position rear sight. Case hardened lockplate dated 1863 at the tail with federal eagle motif and Remington address ahead of the cock. Brass mounted walnut stock with patch box retaining spare nipple and a worm. Left stock flat has boxed Henry D. Jennings "HDJ" and Benjamin Hannis "BH" inspection cartouches. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel blue has some mild fading to plum at the breech. Lock colors have largely drifted to patterned patina with a few brighter flashes of color. Stock has some scattered impressions and crisp cartouches. Brass exhibits an attractive mellow golden patina. Fine, well defined bright 7-groove bore. Fine mechanics.
