Made from a French trigger guard and sideplate with a Dutch lock and a Dutch, or possibly a heavily cut French, barrel. Bayonet lug towards muzzle, three spring-retained barrel bands, foremost with brass front sight and two straps. Sling bows on second barrel bnad and ahead of trigger guard. Trumpet headed ramrod. CONDITION: Metal essentially a smooth brown throughout with flashes of storm grey, particularly to barrel. Stock with extensive repairs about the wrist, but solid, with scattered age appropriate dings, impressions, and a few slivers missing around long and along stock. Mechanically fine with half and full cock, bore with expected oxidation. Many guns of this type have been found in areas like Philadelphia, and one belief is that they were made in Continental Army armories with leftover parts.
