(A) ROBERT JOHNSON US MODEL 1836 FLINTLOCK PISTOL.
The last US Martial pistol with flintlock ignition. Made in Middletown, Connecticut from 1836 through 1844. This model is dated 1838 on lock along with "US", "R. JOHNSON", and "MIDDn CONN". The barrel is stamped with "US", "EB" for Elizur Bates, and "P". Pistol features all iron hardware and furniture, the swivel rod with button head, oval rear sight, barrel band strap extension, and walnut stock with metal pommel. Left side of stock has two strong cartouche stamps, "MPL" for Mann Paige Lomax and "EB" for Bates. CONDITION: Very good to fine. All metal is now a smooth patina. Metal and stock cartouche stamps are strong. Stock is excellent showing nominal impressions. Mechanically sound with fairly clean bore.
