(A) SCARCE 16 GAUGE ROPER ROTARY MAGAZINE SHOTGUN.

Originally patent on April 10, 1866 and made by the Roper Repeating Arms Company in Amherst, Massachusetts, and then in Hartford. The large rotary style carrier has a door where all of the factory legends should be but this door was either replaced or polished and no markings are present. Round barrel, bead front sight, pewter forearm tip, single trigger, and walnut stock with smooth metal buttplate and matching forearm. CONDITION: Good to very good. Barrel is brown patina. Frame shows sundry age freckling. stock wrist is cracked on both sides and shows multiple small dings. Hammer cocks and moves into position. Bore is fairly clean. This scarce shotgun precedes the multiple shot Spencer by sixteen years.
