This is a Tryon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania made rifle with 1814 style patchbox and cheekpiece. Gun has "Tryon of Phila" marked octagon rifled barrel with rifle sights and "CP 172" on left rear barrel flat along with "P" in circle proof. "Tryon" marked flintlock with musket style sideplate. Full walnut stock marked "CP 172" and a name which is unreadable with flat iron barrel keys. Brass furniture with 1814 style side opener patchbox. Steel ramrod. CONDITION: Gun has fine aged original finish with handling and usage marks. Buttplate appears to be a replacement with added finish. Wood has aged finish with visible cartouche and no visible restoration. Most of the Tryon CP rifles have have slight variations. Tryon always had a strained relationship with the government and eventually quit contract work for them. A scarce and desirable Pennsylvania contract rifle. DLM
