(A) SCARCE SHARPS NEW MODEL 1859 SADDLE RING CARBINE
These early Civil War carbines were made in 1861 and this example is still in its original percussion state. The barrel breech is stamped "New Model 1859" and the barrel has the Hartford Sharps legend. Standard post front sight, Lawrence stamped rear ladder sight, Sharps legends and patents on side of lock and frame. This example has the iron hardware and furniture to include to right side patch box. Stocks are standard walnut. Six groove rifling. Retains the saddle bar & ring as well as the automatic tape priming system. CONDITION: Very good. While it does not retain any original finish, it is a smooth freckled patina with all legible legends. Stock is solid with expected dings. Mechanically sound. Bore is well defined. These popular carbines made this early saw significant war use and seldom appear today in their original unaltered crisp condition.
