Originally manufactured for the Civil War as New Model 1863 carbine, this example appears to be one of around 1900 converted in 1867 to fire .50-70 Government cartridges. Carbine correctly retains it unlined 6-groove .52 bore. Font sight has a replacement gold bead blade. Lawrence patent folding ladder rear. Case hardened action with spring loaded firing pin. Plain walnut carbine forend retained with a single barrel band. Stock marked on the left with a "DFC" David Clark inspection cartouche applied at the time of conversion. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel blue has faded to an even freckled plum. Action displays flashes of case color, the balance faded to patterned patina. Upper tang has an older repair. Forend is very good with light impressions. Stock has chips, dings and abrasions concentrated along the comb and toeline, additional impressions throughout. Very fine, strong and bright bore with some very light cleaned oxidation spotting. Fine mechanics. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
