(A) SHORT LAND PATTERN 1769 BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET MARKED TO THE 17TH REGIMENT.

The British 17th Regiment has a long list of battles that they participated in during the Revolutionary War including: The Battle of Long Island, Battle of White Plains, Battle of Harlem Heights, Battle of Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Stony Point and the Siege of Yorktown. The barrel is marked "17TH REGT" on top. The lock has had its British markings removed, likely when captured by American soldiers. Standard Short Land pattern brass furniture. Walnut stock of classic British form. Modern iron ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with pitting throughout. Lock is a good reconversion and retains a dark surface. Most of brass retains a dark mustard patina. Three front ramrod ferrules are modern replacements. Front 24" of forestock professional replaced. Wood otherwise shows scattered heavy marks from use. This Brown Bess saw extensive action during the Revolutionary War and is marked to a very rare and desirable regiment.
