Dated 1855 on tang. US Springfield model 1855 pistol carbine with 12" .58 caliber barrel and Maynard tape prime mechanism. Brass furniture with swivel type ramrod. Fixed blade front sight with folding rear sight graduated to 400 yards, Walnut stock with oil finish. Detachable shoulder stock with brass furniture and iron sling swivel at toe. CONDITION: Good with an even light period pitting overall. Bore has visible rifling with darkness in grooves, Stock has a repaired crack on right side forward of lock as well as repaired cracks on left side emanating from the lock retaining screws. Brass has been polished at an earlier time. Butt is numbered "8". Maynard tape prime mechanism is not complete internally. Shoulder stock us a reproduction and his rather ill fitting with a modified latch. A scarce Martial pistol in any condition with a very limited survival rate. TDW
