This carbine shows a production year of 1898 and falls into the known serial numbers used in Spain during the war. It is a standard saddle ring model with the 1896 carbine marked rear sight but the knurled adjustment knob is missing. The correct type short forearm is a replacement, period done but not correct style and color is off a bit from stock. The cartouche on left side is visible but not legible and no visible proof P under wrist. Carbine has the sight protector barrel band, saddle ring & bar, blue and case color finish, standard blade in base front sight and a smooth steel butt plate with trap. CONDITION: Fine. Case color and blue on frame / magazine have drifted a dull grey with flashes of niter blue on extractor. Barrel retains the majority of thinning blue with some light dings. The stock is excellent with minor dings. Bore is well defined but dull.
