Octagon barrel with bold two line "HENRY'S PATENT OCT 16 1860 MANUFACTURED BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT". Nickel silver square back front sight. Folding staff rear sight graduated to 900 yards with serial number 12833 behind sight. Sling loop mounted on left side of barrel. Gun metal brass receiver with case colored hammer and blued lever. Straight grained slab sawn American walnut stock with brass rifle butt plate and sling swivel on left side. Detail disassembly revels that lower tang , buttstock mortise and buttplate are all numbered 12833. Assembly number 550 is found on barrel under loading collar and loading collar is marked 550 as well. Screws are void of any markings or numbers which is correct for this late production Henry rifle. All screw are excellent without damage. This late production rifle is in magnificent condition retaining over 80% blue finish with balance fading to a light dove grey. Walnut stock is equally fine with most all of its period factory applied varnish remaining. Several light bruises exist in area of sling swivel with a period gouge 1" from point of toe. The gun metal brass frame and buttplate show no sign of polishing and have attained a wonderful mellow mustard coloring. Bore and mechanics are excellent and in proper functioning order. This is by far one of the finest standard grade Henry rifles to be offered. Wonderfully untouched with no evidence of prior disassembly. The iconic Henry rifle had a vey limited survival rate due to its great popularity and later uses on the American Western frontier. This rifle was obviously protected and sheltered from any actual use. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
