Thomas North is recorded as working in Southampton circa 1804-1838. Round barrel with flat tap inscribed "T. NORTH SOUTHAMPTON" and silver band at breech. Diminutive bead front sight, not rear sight. Lock with beveled edges signed "T. NORTH / SOUTHAMPTON" and lightly decorated with florals to rear and rays around screw hole. Converted from flintlock to percussion, likely in the period of use. English push on safety, simple cock undecorated and checkered at tip. Trigger guard with stand of arms and pineapple finial. Barrel retained by wedge. Ramrod, possibly the original, feeds into a two part reinforced mouth. Elegant pistol grip checkered in a weave pattern. CONDITION: Very good, gently cleaned over some old oxidation that has left spotting throughout, but legends still crisp. Wood is very good with bumps and bruises throughout from handling and use, with some very minor chipping around wedge and at trigger guard. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, including safety, bore is very good with a minimum of oxidation and some welding visible from when conversion to percussion was performed. EW
