One of the first Third Model Dragoons No. 10847 is preserved in extraordinarily fine condition. The barrel retains nearly all its pasty military type bluing with fading throughout and some extremely minor pitting at the very end of the muzzle. Frame retains considerable dove grey military type case hardening. Cylinder retains much of its original military type blue with perfect scene. Legible Ormsby signature and raised relief "U.S.M.R." and Colt's patent markings. Hammer retains unfaded case color with extremely minor flash pitting. Loading lever has most darkened case colors. Backstrap and trigger guard retain nearly all of their original factory silver plating. Varnished walnut grips retain much varnish with some indication of overfinish; right side of grip with 1" long gouge and some very minor dents. All matching numbers including wedge. Good bore with some roughness. the extremely rare rosewood box is brass bound with vertical lid, brown velvet lining and in the very rare French fitted style. Includes original Colt's patent Dragoon flask that retains nearly all of its original lacquer on body with two very minor dents, and spout retains some original gilding; brass Colt's patent mold in unmarked but correct, screwdriver retains considerable original finish, and large Eley cap tin. An excellent example of an extremely early Third Model Dragoon in the even rarer vertical lid, French fitted rosewood box, suitable for an extremely fine engraved specimen.
