Manufactured circa 1915 and finished in classic polished blue. Revolver features what appears to be factory foliate scroll engraving, much in the style of period after the passing of the Young engraving dynasty in 1912. Possibly Leon Goodyear, but unsigned. The engraving begins on the rear third of the barrel, and continues onto the frame with significant coverage, including a few flourishes on the backstrap (flourish at the heel covered by the current stocks), and scrolls on each chamber. As is standard for a so-called Bekeart Special the heavier I frame is fitted with a 6" .22 barrel, thin bead top blade front sight and adjustable target rear. The gun currently is outfited with a pair of period 2-piece extended pearl target stocks mounted with an unusual aluminum extension stamped "PAT. OCT. 10 19(?)" on the base. At some point the top strap of the frame has been crudely engraved with the name "MAY CLINTON". CONDITION: Very good overall. The vast majority of the factory blue is retained with some muzzle and edge wear. Some older oxidation spots present on the top strap and frame near the forcing cone. Strong case colors displayed on the trigger and hammer with expected edge wear and muting. A chip present on the inside of the left grip heel, the grips otherwise remain in fine condition. Bore is bright with strong well defined rifling. Crisp mechanics. A very interesting and scarce Smith & Wesson.
