Manufactured in the first block of Winchester production circa October 1942 to December 1943. "W" marked and Winchester proofed barrel with milled front sight and "S" marked flip rear. A small import marking is discreetly stamped on the barrel at the front sight. Correct Winchester small parts including flat bolt and push button safety. Earlier I cut high-wood stock bearing ordnance wheel and "W.R.A. / G.H.D." proofs on the right as well as "D.S." initials on the grip. "M-U" 2 rivet top wood retained by an unmarked type 1 flat band. After Allied victory in WWII, this carbine was one of 14,647 carbines issued to police in Bavaria between 1946 and 1947 bearing a correct "BAVARIAN PRISON GUARD" stamp along the receiver. The trigger guard was marked "LGK Sb/ N / 0334" for the Landes Gendarmerie Kommando Salzburg, indicating it was one of 4000 carbines sold to the Austrian police circa the 1950s. CONDITION: Very good. Nearly all of the original finish is retained with some expected light edgewear. Stocks are fine with some scattered light marks. Good, bright bore. ME reads just over 1. Fine mechanics. A nice example. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection
