Circa 1926-1930 per "BOSS & Co.: Best Gunmakers" 2nd Edition, by Dallas. A later set of post-1963 chopper lump barrels with with a diminutive bead front sight on a solid, narrowing, concave rib engraved "BOSS & Co 13-14 Cork Street. London, W1" with a 3/4" spring of scrollwork with a gold inlaid "1", indicating that this gun was once one of a pair. Breeches are dressed with stiffleaf engraving. Underside of tubes with matching serial number and a discrete import mark for CSMC. Barrel flats with 3 ton London nitro poofs for a 2 - 1/2" chambered 12 gauge with a nominal .729 IBD; chambers have been subsequently lengthened to 2 - 3/4". Rear lump numbered "9159". Svelte splinter forearm with a reinforced Anson release, gold inlaid "1" under the plunger, and checkered in a modified point pattern with mullered borders about a central open diamond which has escutcheon screw. Interior iron with matching serial number. Sidelock ejector action engraved in classic Boss rose and scroll, with a total of 20(!) bouquets of roses across the action and lockplates. Five of the pins with nitre blued ends, gold line cocking indicators, a Boss patent single nonselective trigger, and an automatic safety. Right hand checkered top break lever with a gold inlaid "1". Right hand rolled trigger guard with a single bouquet of roses and scroll work en suite with intaglio serial number. Action flat numbers and proof added later. Richly figured and darkly streaked Turkish walnut stock with teardrops behind lockplates, point pattern checkering with mullered borders about the English straight grip, with a golden initial plaque at toe line and checkered butt. CONDITION: Very good as refreshed in the English style, with scattered fine pockmarks visible on barrels and action. Barrels have been mated to the gun at a later date, as Cork street address was added later and post-dates the date of manufacture of the action. Forearm has woodfill repair on interior on either side of iron. Case color has been refreshed and aged to a mellow appearance with areas of dove grey throughout. Stock with scattered handling marks and dings throughout, wrist checkering recut, while butt checkering appears original with some abraded heads. Mechanically fine, bores very good, smooth, with some firing striations. Ejectors are strong, a touch out of time. As an IC/IC choked gun, it's a wonderful little upland gun.
