Woodsman Match Target semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Colt in 1940. The left side of the barrel is stamped "MATCH/ (BULLSEYE TARGET) / TARGET", with "THE WOODSMAN" on the frame. Slide is stamped "COLT" followed by the caliber designation and the Rampant Colt logo. Right side of receiver is stamped "MITAA/ PS 9", which is unknown to this cataloger. Metal components are blued, frame is mounted with a 1-piece checkered walnut wraparound grip with silver Colt medallions. This example is accompanied by an original unnumbered Colt factory leatherette box. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting scattered marks from handling and storage, as well as areas of wear showing through to gray patina. Excellent bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit smoothing and some scattered handling marks, with the front of the grip bearing an old repair to a crack. Factory leatherette box retains its original end label and exhibits moderate edge wear overall, with the right side side panel of the lid being loose on both ends. A desirable pre-war Colt Woodsman Match Target, with an unusual stamping.
