1 of only approximately 5,356 blued Second Issue Border Patrol double action revolvers manufactured by Colt between 1970-1975. This example, made in 1971, is stamped "COLT BORDER PATROL" above " * .357 MAGNUM CTG. * " on the left side of the barrel, with Colt's single line address on the right. Left side of frame bears the Rampant Colt logo as well as a "VP" proof. Features include a blue finish, 4" barrel, ramp front sight, adjustable square notch rear sight, serrated trigger, checkered hammer, as well as 2-piece Colt silver medallion checkered walnut grips. Matching serial numbers are present on the frame and cylinder crane, with the grips matching via a handwritten serial number on the interior of the panels. Revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter reads that this example was sent in a shipment of 2 revolvers to "William Judd / Security Specialist - Colt's / 8634 Redwood Drive, Vienna, Virginia" on November 10th 1971, indicating that it was shipped out as a sales sample and was subsequently sold as a used firearm to Colt Employee L. Frank on December 21st, 1984, likely at the time Colt was clearing old inventory out of their warehouse. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory applied blue finish, exhibiting little signs of wear overall, save for a light dragline on the cylinder. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined lands and grooves throughout. Grips are excellent overall. MLW
