Lot #1257:
(C) KORNBRATH ENGRAVED SPRINGFIELD 1903 .30-06 BOLT ACTION SPORTING RIFLE
This rifle began life as a 6-19 dated 1903 Springfield. The original barrel was used with the banded front sight and dated with bomb. This cataloger can find no sign of an RK or Kornbrath signature but it is in his style. Rudolph was known as a master engraver plying his trade from around 1910 through 1937. The chamber is engraved with a male lion while the floor plate features a female bear and her cubs. All of this is surrounded by skillfully cut floral patterns and is found on the barrel at breech, trigger guard, frame, upper tang and floor plate which also exhibits gold inlaid initials in an oval. Rear sight is a folding leaf on base, an early long stem Lyman 48 receiver sight, and finished in rust blue. The custom walnut stock is at least 3x quality and is finely checkered with a swept pistol grip, matching checkered forearm, and Wundhammer style checkered side panels often used on Fred Adolph rifles. The blued metal butt plate encompasses a bullet trap. Majority of checkering features a leaf border. The walnut stock also has a Schnabel tip. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal retains nearly all of its reapplied custom blue finish with nominal handling marks. Stocks are excellent with sharp checkering, minor impressions and a small hairline crack at heel. Mechanically sound with a pronounced bore with some frosting.
