Circa 1923. Adjustable bead front sight which has been "crowned" to provide a silver contrast to the bluing. Rear sight is a drift adjustable notch sight with two horizontal ivory lines, and an open bottom, resembling the bottom half of an "I". Gun is richly engraved in approximately 60% coverage of flowing vine and scroll on a stippled background, which continues on top of barrel, and has smaller areas of en suite engraving on the area of frame where barrel screws in trigger guard, crane, and bottom of grip; muzzle is dressed in stiff leaf. Flat sighting plane on top of top strap has a small vignette of a grounded grouse in a wooded scene. Hand checkered along back and front straps. Two-piece ivory grips with Colt medallions at wrist; left scale faces towards muzzle, while right scale faces to the reverse. Unsigned, but the work is reminiscent of Kornbrath, who was working in the correct time frame. CONDITION: Retains the vast majority of the period reapplied bluing, probably after the engraving was completed. There are some minor superficial marks, most noticeable on barrel and crane, scattered throughout. Engraving is sharp and well-executed. Grips are very good, with some patina scattered, particularly about the medallions, but solid and free of cracks or chips. Mechanically fine, bore is excellent with strong rifling and some mild oxidation.
