Lot #1258:
(C) SCARCE PRE-WAR WINCHESTER MODEL 70 BOLT ACTION RIFLE IN .250-3000
Dates to 1938, the second year that Winchester offered the Model 70 in this caliber. It is estimated that only 2750 pre-1964 rifles were made in this caliber. It is a standard pre-War with the stripper clip cut in frame, a hooded ramp front sight, a filler in rear slot, matted receiver bridge with two mount screws, a Lyman 48 left side mounted receiver sight, straight comb walnut stock with checkered pistol grip, checkered steel butt plate, and checkering en suite on forend. Fit with a leather sling. With stock removed, the base of barrel is stamped 25-3S for .250-3000 Savage, "37" date, and triangle proof. The bolt is etched 16620. CONDITION: Excellent. Stock is excellent with sharp checkering and minimal sundry impressions. Metal retains nearly all of its blue with exception to the floor plate that retains only flashes of blue along with nominal handling marks. Mechanically sound with a bright bore. Very high condition early rifle in scarce caliber.
