Winchester began production of these rifles intended for the English military in 1916 but discontinued this series when the US entered the First World War on April the 6th of 1917. The only legend found on the frame is the serial number with the W prefix indicating the Winchester manufacture. The bolt has a matching serial number. The only other stamps found externally on the metal are the various British proof or acceptance marks. Distinctly English is the identification brass disc on right side of stock as well as the front volley sight pointer arm found on left side of forearm. Finish is standard WWI arsenal blue and rifle features the military front and rear sights as well as the stock swivels. The barrel is import stamped. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel and frame retain the vast majority of their blued finish showing moderate handling marks. The stock is solid but displays sundry dings and impressions. Mechanically sound retaining a bold, lightly frosted bore.
