From the estate of William Uhl, National Postal Meter Superintendent, tool designer, and engineer (“War Baby 2, pg 824). Full production of the M1 Carbine began at National Postal Meter in February 1943 at serial number 1,450,000. This carbine, numbered 1,450,375, is therefore the 375th produced. Underwood barrel is dated "12-42" with "N" marked front sight and "TN" marked flip rear. Parts are earliest production: Type 1 hammer marked H in shield with ordnance bomb, trigger housing N with no outside marked number and 3 inside, bolt no number with X mark for experimental. Stock is an early I cut high wood, 1 of only 1000 supplied to National Postal Meter by Inland to start production, and is marked "O / LA" in the sling well, absent any cartouche. "TN" marked hand guard retained by a "UN" type 1 band. Complete with a nice "S-N" ink stamped khaki sling. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components retain the vast majority of their parkerized finishes with some light wear. Finish appears original. Stock and hand guard rate very fine with light impressions throughout. The interior stock bridge has detached but is included. Very good, bright bore. ME of 1. Fine mechanics. Larry Ruth's collection tag notes carbine is "RESTORED", as Larry put earliest production parts on it. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection
