(C) US PROPERTY COLT MODEL 1903 SEMI-AUTOMATIC GENERAL OFFICER'S PISTOL.

US military production with "U.S. PROPERTY" stamp on the right side of the frame. Wartime parkerized finish and checkered walnut grips with rampant Colt medallions. Standard fixed front sight and drift adjustable square notch rear. Includes a blued "CAL.32 / COLT" marked magazine. William's and Brunner's "U.S. General Officer Pistols" does not list an officer issue record for this serial number, although does note on page 3 that 2,928 of these pistols were procured by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in the 541,103 to 569,725 range. An included Colt archival letter records this gun as sent in a shipment of 2 on January 20, 1945 to the Commanding General, Hq. Army Ground Forces at the War College, Washington D.C., Attention Lt. Col. Feldman. The Colt letter lists the finish as blue, but it is documented that the finish changed to parkerization at approximately 562000; likely a clerical error. CONDITION: Excellent. Bountiful amounts of parkerized finish is retained throughout with faint silvering at the high edges and some scattered handling marks and evidence of slide cycling. Grips are likewise excellent with crisp checkering. Fine, bright bore. Fine mechanics.
