Developed in response to the 1972 Munich Olympics for counter terror units. It is believed only 360 were produced, most of which were procured by the Israeli Defense Force. About 160 of the Israeli rifles were later imported into the US. This example has West German “HI” date code for 1978. Full reapplied phosphate finish. Tapered barrel without iron sights mounted with a matching numbered slotted muzzle brake. Breech has the “Original / Mauser” logo. Slide and bolt handle have “961” electro pencil numbers, the safety block numbered “793”. Rifle is mounted with an appropriate Israeli ZF95 6x42 scope made by Kahles, although unmarked. Heavy thumbhole walnut stock with “MAUSER” banner logo, stippled forend and pistol grip, spring loaded cheek riser, and Morgan adjustable butt pad. CONDITION: Very good. Nearly all of the arsenal reapplied parkerized finish is retained with some minor high edge wear. Bolt shows somewhat more finish thinning. Stock is solid, with scuffing, abrasions, and impressions throughout as is expected on a well-loved sniper rifle. Well defined, frosted bore. Fine mechanics. A seldom seen and highly desirable sniper rifle.
