Very attractive refinished Winchester Model 1918 B.A.R. with crossed cannon and flaming bomb ordnance proofs on barrel. Winchester marked barrel is dated “2-19” below flaming bomb proof. This very same gun is cited and in photograph in James Ballou’s book, “A Rock and Hard Place” on pages 209-210. The book notes and illustrates in photograph the receiver markings change to “Automatic” Rifle. A spare ”9-18” dated barrel, and eight 20 round magazines are included with this lot. This gun retains the correct WW I configuration flash hider as well a checkered wood forend and wood buttstock. This gun also has a first style gas regulator and "F A S" selector markings. Electronic NFA registry indicates “WINCHESTER” in the manufacturer’s block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent professional refinish with some slight handling marks. Forend is extremely fine to near excellent with light handling marks. Buttstock is extremely fine with very small about 2” long cracks on both side near the receiver parallel to the bore line with a brass pin repair. This is common as wood shrinks over a 100 year period unless kept in a humidity controlled environment. Bore of guns barrel is extremely fine. Bore of spare barrel is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. A very attractive looking specimen which is a book documented example of the evolution of receiver markings during the early production years. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2026-09-110.
