(N) EXCEPTIONAL EARLY FLAT HOUSING GERMAN WWII MP-40 MACHINE GUN MARKED "1939" (FULLY TRANSFERABLE).

An exceptional specimen of the iconic German MP-40 manufactured by C.G. Haenel and registered by Charles Erb. Desirable early transition flat magazine housing and early checkered magazine release with visible numbers matching including bolt, barrel, front sight hood, pot metal barrel resting bar, barrel nut, rear sight, and lower assembly. Very nice “cos” (Mertzwerke) WaA markings with "(eagle) / 37" proof indicating C.G. Haenel final assembly. Noteworthy is the, “1939” marking on the top rear of the lower assembly. This cataloger has not seen this before. Observe the pantograph numbers in the photos and make your own judgement. If this indicates year of manufacture this would indicate a particularly early MP-40 indeed. “ERB” manufacturer’s mark on lower underside of receiver tube with registered number on top of the receiver tube. One original slab-sided 32 round magazine and a leather sling is included with this lot. Electronic NFA registry indicates “ERB CHARLES” in the manufacturer’s block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine to extremely fine original blued finish thinning to a gray patina, particularly in the area around the ejection port and at the high points. Bolt has some light pitting on left side, not visible when bolt is forward, with extremely fine unpitted bolt face. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bakelite lower and grips are extremely fine with light handling marks. Sling is extremely fine and serviceable. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. This cataloger has seen and examined hundreds of MP-40 machine guns, and will all factors considered, this specimen is absolutely among the most desirable.
