Truly outstanding high condition specimen of the early Browning model 1917 machine gun, unmodified. Marked on right sideplate as manufactured by N.E. WESTINGHOUSE CO. with serial number 13 N.A.C. –. This gun was a registered deactivated machine gun, as were almost all of the surviving unmodified Browning Model 1917 guns. This gun was subsequently reactivated by master weaponsmith Tim LaFrance and is so professionally marked on the right sideplate with his name and address information. This in no way negatively affects the Curio & Relic status nor high level of collector’s value of this historic piece of American machine gun history. This gun has attractive bronze trunnion and end caps and an attractive dull blue finish throughout. Both water fill cap and drain plugs are brass, and retain their original chains, as does the drain cork. Wood handle is robust and very attractive. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent dull gray blue refinish upon activation. An occasional handling mark and some light evidence of corrosion discernible upon very close inspection. No dings or dents to the water jacket. Receiver number is the only visible number. Bore is near excellent shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. Tripod is in good original serviceable condition with appropriate green repainted surface. No manufacturer’s identification disk present. Steam condensing hose included with this lot is extremely fine. Wooden ammo box manufactured by F & L Manufacturing company also in good serviceable condition except for leather carrying strap which has parted with center section not present. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2021-04-008
