Genuine Lewis aircraft machine gun as manufactured by Savage Arms Company and so marked on right side of receiver together with “U.S. CAL. .30” marking and patent dates. The top of receiver is marked “LEWIS AIRCRAFT GUN – CAL .30” / MODEL 1918 / ABF INSPECTOR / U.S.A. & N.A.S. NO 45633” with crossed cannons ordnance mark. Action cover is marked “LEWIS MACHINE GUN” with manufacturer’s name and address over “30 US GOVT" marking. Aircraft mounting ring present. A deactivated barrel in the white with plugged chamber, a spare handgrip assembly, three spare extractors, two 30-U.S. rear sight ladders, a spare firing pin, and one 47-round pan magazine in .30-06 is included in this lot. This gun has never had a rear sight fitted to its vacant base indicating with would have been mounted on or above a wing. Electronic NFA registry indicates “LEWIS MACHINE GUN” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original black enameled finish with some loss of finish revealing gray patina. Barrel and muzzle are in-the-white. No sights present. Wood is extremely fine with light handling marks. Grip on right side of spare handgrip has a neatly cut saw blade width slot, perhaps indicating a “victory” in the air. Bore is extremely fine, shiny, and bright. Bolt is extremely fine and clean. Mechanics are crisp, smooth, and positive. This is a fully automatic only machine gun. Very attractive Lewis aircraft machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
