Very attractive Steyr "bnz" manufactured MP43 machine gun manufactured in 1944 with clear "WaA 623" proofs on receiver forward of the magazine housing. Markings have been visually enhanced with blue chalk by the consignor. Matching numbers on bolt, op-rod, buttstock assembly, and lower assembly; Barrel number does not match but only discernable when gun is disassembled. One original MP-43 magazine is included with this lot as well as takedown tool and loading clip in the buttstock trap. Barrel, op-rod, and wood buttstock were manufactured by C.G. Haenel (fxo). It was common practice for different firms to supply parts to the manufacturer who would complete final assembly. This model group (nomenclature included MP43/1, MP43, MP44, and STG 44) was the first true modern “assault rifle” chambered for a shorter-than-standard rifle cartridge (33mm vs57 mm) which, although less powerful than the standard 8mm German rifle round, was still very effective at medium ranges where most combat took place. This allowed the individual soldier to have a higher magazine capacity in a weapon which was handier and more versatile than those of their opponents. This revolutionized warfare. Capable of both semi-automatic and fully automatic fire with the pressing of a switch this first modern assault rifle could fill the role of a deliberate aimed-fire weapon, as well as that of a suppressing fire weapon. This rifle was constructed of metal stampings to the maximum extent possible to save production time and cost. Electronic NFA registry indicates, “GERMANY” in the manufacturer's block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original finish with some loss of finish to a gray patina. Wood is extremely fine with typical handling marks. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. These guns are tremendously fun to shoot at the range, and this is an exceedingly attractive specimen. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2026-05-108.
