Exceptionally high condition early Colt 1921 Thompson as originally manufactured without Cutts Compensator. Gordon Herigstad's serial number listing of serial numbers & histories indicates it was first shipped to “Guaranty Trust Company, 60 Liberty Street, New York City, NY” and subsequently owned by "Jim Watson collection, Phoenix, Arizona 09/08". Buttstock has been refinished judging by the different “sheen” compared to the other wood furnishings, but the original bluing really sets this early gun apart from other specimens. One original, early, no-patent dates, 20-round magazine is included with this lot. This gun retains its original 1921 internal parts and correctly "anchor" marked original buttstock. Typical markings on receiver with visible serial numbers matching. Crisp clear lettering and sharp edges throughout. Electronic NFA registry indicates “THOMPSON” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the personal and advanced collection of Dr. Jim Watson of Scottsdale, Arizona. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent, fine, deep, lustrous blue original finish with some thinning to a gray patina at the top rear of the pistol grip, and at the forward edge of the actuator slot. Some loss of finish and gray/brown patina on the buttplate, and at the rear attachment point of the lower to the buttstock (not visible when stock is in place). Wood is exceptionally attractive with some very few and light handling marks. Bore is extremely fine to near excellent, shiny and bright, but there is a very slight ring barely discernable about 2" back from the muzzle. This in no way compromises the serviceability of the barrel, but needs to be disclosed as part of this detailed description. Bolt face is near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. Among the very best looking and certainly one of the highest condition, if not the highest condition, 3-digit Thompson machine guns this cataloger has ever seen. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2024-05-070
