One of the most rare and sought after 9mm machine guns used by German forces during WWII. This ZK-383 sub-machine gun manufactured by Waffenwerke Brunn which was the German name for the Czech government firearms works (BRNO) while under German occupation. This is a very early specimen as indicated by the serial number and the fact that the only manufacturers markings are found on the magazine housing, "WAFFENWERKE BRUNN / AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT". This weapon shows the very highest standards of fit and finish much akin to the quality found on Czech ZH-29 rifles. The ZK-383 has several features that makes it extremely desirable for collectors and recreational machine gun enthusiasts alike. First is that the rate of fire may be adjusted by inserting or removing a weight which fits into a recess in the bolt. Another desirable feature is a quick-change barrel. All one has to do is pull back a heavy-spring catch near the muzzle and the sight and barrel assembly may be rotated to one side and then withdrawn. Additionally, this weapon design incorporates a bipod which folds neatly into a recess in the forend. Two 30-round original magazines are included with this lot. This cataloger is familiar with the history of this gun, and a previous owner stated he acquired this weapon from a U.S. veteran who brought it back. Electronic NFA registry indicates “WAFFEN MEISTER” in the manufacturers block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent original lustrous blue finish with some slight loss at the muzzle and thinning in a couple of places. The buttplate which opens to reveal mainspring has less finish and has thinned to a grey patina. Buttstock and forearm have several small gouges, some bruises and light handling marks, but none of this detracts from the extremely attractive appearance of this exceedingly finely made sub-machine gun. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. This is an outstanding find for even the most advanced machine gun collector and is without any doubt the finest condition specimen of this model that this cataloger has ever seen.
