This is a very seldom encountered original U.S. Property marked curio and relic eligible Browning Model 37 machine gun. This model was specifically intended for mounting in armored vehicle and is essentially a Browning model 1919A4 set up with a bolt which allows feeding from the left or the right, a special top cover with latches which can be actuated from either side, and with a specialized charging handle extension to allow for it to be charged while mounted in vehicles. Marked on right sideplate, “GUN, MACHINE , CAL .30 M37 / U.S. PROPERTY / MFD. SACO – LOWELL SHOPS”. Inspector markings and Department of Defense markings are also visible on the right sideplate. Hand grip is all-metal type. Accessories include a tripod with traverse and elevation mechanism. Electronic NFA registry indicates, “SACO DEFENSE INC” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is near excellent green matte finish with some slight loss of finish at the high edges of the backplate. No evidence of any pits, or marks under this finish, nor of any wear in the feedway, so this gun may well be unfired. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. Tripod is near mint. This is a full-auto only machine gun. The Browning machine gun is one of the great American classics and a mainstay of the Class III shooting community with abundant spare parts available and convertible to multiple calibers. The fact that this is a high condition original factory built gun only heightens the appeal of this piece. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2023-4-20
