Auto Ordnance Corporation manufactured Model 1928A1 Thompson with smooth replacement barrel and Lyman marked fixed peep sight. Accessories include an “AUTO-ORDNANCE CORP. / BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT” address 50-round drum with “U” proof in “R M CO / 1942” marked carrier, and 3 30-round magazines in “U.S.M.C. / R. M. CO. / NO – 45412 / 1944” marked magazine carrier. Original oiler in buttstock trap. This is an “A.O.” (Auto Ordnance) prefix serial number. Lower assembly serial number matches. Vertical foregrip. 3rd variation Auto-Ordnance marked Cutts compensator with bullet logo on left side. Left side of receiver left factory originally marked “U.S. Model 1928 A1” above serial number, currently the “U.S.” has been machined out, and a “C” overstamped over the “1” so that it is now marked “Model 1928 AC”. Thompsons marked in this way indicates they were sold by the U.S. Government to police agencies after World War II. Other left-hand receiver markings are, “THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN”, “CALIBRE .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE”, (markings are soft due to refinishing, but discernible). Right-hand receiver markings are typical “AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION” with Bridgeport address. Electronic NFA registry indicates “AUTO ORDNANCE” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent smooth matte grey-blue refinish on metal parts with some variance to the color of the bluing, particularly on the smooth barrel which is marked with an “S” on the left side, and with an “O” on the right side next to the index mark, which does not match up with the receiver index mark. This is typical of replacement barrels on World War II arsenal rebuild guns and does not in any way affect function. Buttplate has a smooth lustrous finish and is quite nice, thinning to gray patina at the high edges. Drum is very attractive and clean with a matte grey-blue finish consistent with the gun. Stick magazines have a near excellent lustrous blue finish. Wood buttstock and vertical forend are extremely fine and attractive with some light handling marks. Pistol grip shows a couple noticeable scratches on the right side with a small chip at the right side. Magazines carriers are near mint condition. Bore is extremely fine, shiny, and bright as is the bolt face. The bolt is polished. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. A very nice Thompson with enough magazines to have a great time at the range. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
