Note serial number 5097375 places this gun as manufactured in the early 1970s timeframe. Guns in the 5 million serial number range were produced starting in 1973, so one can use one's judgement about the actual year this gun left the factory. Colt logo with simply "M16" on left side of magazine well. Forward assist present on right side of receiver. Buttstock trap in stock. Triangular handguards. No magazine present. Only the absence of United States property markings and serial number range distinguish the gun from the ones taken into military service. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish in near excellent overall, likely refinished judging from the bluing in some spots of light pitting on the right side above the trigger. One has to look closely to discern this. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. Anytime an early 1970s M16 (not an M16A1) comes up for auction it commands attention, and brings premium collector interest. Shrewd investors take notice. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2023-12-86
