Truly superbly high condition specimen of a Colt 1921 Thompson which was originally built as a 1921A and then later had an unmarked Type 1 Cutts compensator factory fitted upgrading it to a 1921AC configuration (reference pg 160, “The Ultimate Thompson Book” by Tracie L. Hill). This gun is documented in Gordon Herigstad's serial number listing of serial numbers and histories as being a 1921 AC shipped on 2/25/29 to the Bowling Green, Ohio police department, C/O Chief of Police Carl M. Galliher. 2 shoulder patches from this police department are included with this gun. Take a close look at the original bluing on this gun. It is absolutely nothing short of spectacular. This gun retains its original 1921 internal parts and correctly marked original buttstock. Typical markings on receiver with visible serial numbers matching. “JHB” inspection mark very clear on right side of receiver with crisp clear lettering and sharp edges throughout. A single high lustrous finish original “PATENTED-AUG.20, 1920 …” 20 round magazine is included. The Thompson spans a range across several collecting genres, with plenty of variations and accessories to appeal to a wide range of collector/investors. Electronic NFA registry indicates “THOMPSON” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent deep lustrous blue original finish with slight loss of finish at the forward edge of the charging handle slot, and at the stock attachment points. Buttplate finish thinning and turning a brown patina with thinning to a grey at the high edges. Bluing a brown patina just to the rear of the compensator where it was fitted at muzzle. Wood is extremely fine with a rich brown color and light handling marks. Bore is near mint, shiny and bright. Bolt is near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. Consignor states this is the best Colt Thompson he has ever seen and it is certainly the finest condition 1921AC this cataloger has seen. A rare opportunity for the advanced and discerning Thompson collector to get not only a stellar condition gun but also one that demonstrates how the Cutts compensator was retrofitted to the early 1921 Thompson guns. How wonderfully appropriate that this particularly fine specimen surfaces to become available in the 100th anniversary year in which these guns were first offered. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2021-11-036
