Extremely attractive and eye-catching early German WW2 MP43/1 manufactured by C.G. Haenel in 1943, with eagle over “37” proofs on underside of receiver as well as on left side of barrel. Other proof marks in evidence are “cos” (Merz werk), and “awt” (Wurttemburgische Matallwarefabrik), who were both well-known German WW2 sheet metal sub-contractors who provided a great deal of equipment to the German military. Close examination reveals that the bolt and operating rod were provided by Mauser (eagle over “26”) with an “M” on the underside of the bolt. The bolt is of the early “1st” type without a factory cut-out near the extractor. Visible parts appear all matching SN throughout, to include hand inscribed SN on bolt. Scope mount exhibits matching SN with eagle over “214” proof, with tiny eagle over swastika final proof visible through release lever channel. Accessories include German WW2 vintage ZF4 scope manufactured by “ddx” (Voigtlander & Sohn), original leather sling, and one rare original “MKb42” over “MP43” marked magazine also with C.G. Haenel proofs. This gun incorporates an original factory-fitted MKb-42 “Heavy” un-stepped barrel with long muzzle nut. This is completely consistent with the vintage of this gun as part of the transition from the manufacture of the Mkb-42 the factory was utilizing the barrels and other parts still on hand. This model was the Grand-daddy of all modern assault rifles incorporating desirable features such as being select-fire, firing from a closed bolt, taking an intermediate cartridge (shorter than the standard 8mm) which could range out further and with greater effect than a pistol cartridge, and yet have a high magazine capacity. This specimen exhibits and important step what the German military was trying to develop. A rifle which would serve in multiple roles and situations according to need, include having a scope for longer range and low-light conditions. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent mixture of original and nearly indiscernible original factory refinish at time of assembly of sub-contracted parts. Stock has some very light handling marks. Bore is near excellent shiny and bright. Bolt is near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. A fantastic find for the advanced WW2 German military collector, and gun that is great fun to shoot at the range as well. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 18-37
