Produced and inspected in 1874, the revolver has the early features of first year production Ainsworth inspected single actions including the early script style barrel address, two line patent markings, small type US markings, single cartouche on left grip panel, small cylinder stops, bullseye style ejector rod head, tiny single initial ordnance sub-inspector "A", first style ejector housing. Serial numbered ejector housing, only found on 29 specimens, with this example named by serial number in Kopecs book "Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers, A Continuing Study" pg 18. This example has all matching serial numbers, with Ainsworth initial on the barrel, back strap, cylinder and trigger guard and the butt of the grip. Ainsworth cartouche is intact on the left grip panel. CONDITION: The revolver exhibits a nice, even original grey patina finish. Traces of case colors are evident on the frame and hammer. There are traces of blue in protected areas of the ejector housing and barrel. The bore is exceptional and has a bright finish with a few areas of frost in the grooves. Mechanically fine, bore with strong, well defined rifling and some light frosting.
