This is a well-made American Schuetzen rifle with an octagonal barrel with rounded section at muzzle, where a false muzzle was one attached. The rifled barrel features a patent breech and an engraved tang. Barrel inscribed "Escherich & Son Balt. MD." and stamped "F. NESTLE BALTO. MD." on top flat. Lock is finely engraved with foliate scrolls. Steel target trigger guard, forend cap and buttplate, all engraved en suite. Walnut Schuetzen style half stock with shaped checkered panels on each side of wrist and large relief target cheek piece. Complete with oak ball starter/bench rest. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel and lock retain a spotted grey patina, bore has some spotting but rifling is still visible. Lock mechanism functions well, as do set triggers. Furniture retains an even darker grey patina, rear sight is absent. Stock very good, as refinished with a few scattered marks. A very nice American target rifle.
