Standard model 1842 USN box lock pistol as produced by Ames. Dated 1844 on the lock, 1845 on the barrel. USN inspectors marks. Two cartouches on the left side of the stock. Has "M.A. THOMA" carved into the bottom of the stock, appears to have something else just under it, however it is illegible. Worthy of further research. Smoothbore. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina overall with some minor pitting. Markings are clear. Good working order. Brass has a pleasing mellow patina to it. Wood is solid with some dings and handling marks, shows even wear. Bore has light pitting. Fine mechanical function. From the Robert Sadler Collection. GR
