The tapered barrel has a top flat that phases away about half way down the barrel. There are three engraved lines at breech and a bayonet lug mounted on top, near muzzle. The banana lockplate is flat with beveled edges and a molded tail. This exact style is associated with Hessian muskets. The buttplate, ramrod ferrules and lock screw escutcheons are all sheet brass. The triggerguard is engraved with a folky flower on the bow. The nosecap is tin. Stocked in cherry. The iron ramrod appears to be its original. Complete with an associated crude and likely American socket bayonet marked with "M / N. 21" on the socket. CONDITION: Barrel retains a pleasing brown patina. Lock retains a dark brown patina, is in its original flintlock configuration and functions well. Brass retains a pleasing dark mustard patina. Stock shows scattered age cracks, marks from use and minor chips. Bayonet deformed on both ends of socket and blade slightly bent. A nice 18th century American-assembled musket.
