Lot #3037:
(A) BALKAN MIQUELET RATTAIL FLINTLOCK PISTOL.
Used extensively in the Balkans and Caucus Mountain regions, the rat tail pistols have become synonymous with the later uses by pirates and traders in the Mediterranean seas and ports. Using a Miquelet lock ignition system these simple pistols were very reliable and sturdy. The stock assembly is hand embellished brass in the rattail pattern with dual barrel bands of thin brass sheeting. The iron octagon to round barrel is smooth bore and about .64 caliber. Small embellishments of white metal on the brass grip appear to be florets while the balance is engraved with geometric patterns and scrolls. CONDITION: Very nice overall with a lightly cleaned / polished surface. Lock operates properly and is mechanically fine. Very attractive and presents itself well.
Caliber/Bore
