(A) BELGIUM BREVETE COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER.

These Brevet's were essentially unlicensed copies of popular American firearms made in the same period, usually in Belgium. This is a high quality Belgium copy of a Colt 1851 Navy with Liege proof marks . Standard features to include the octagon barrel, brass straps, one piece walnut grips with blue and case color finish. The cylinder has a roll die scene but not the Naval example, instead they used a stage coach scene. The barrel is stamped Colts Patent only. No stamps on the frame. Matching numbers on frame, barrel and trigger guard. No number on back strap, cylinder or wedge. CONDITION: Very good. No real signs of any original finish, this gun is now basically a soft grey patina with some freckling. Grips are excellent. Mechanically sound with a well defined frosted bore. Belgium was neutral during the Crimean War that was fought between Russia and the alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France and the United Kingdom from October 1853 to February 1856 but they still provided weapons to the alliance albeit privately.
