This fine example is of standard configuration with a round barrel with bayonet lug on top toward the muzzle. Tower proofs on top at breech and crown stamped on back of barrel tang. Convex lockplate marked "TOWER" at tail and engraved with large crown over "GR" in center. Small crown over broad arrow stamped below pan, denoting government ownership. Standard Pattern 1756 brass furniture, wrist escutcheon engraved with a straight line above "No" with no actual number following. The walnut stock has the deeply stamped intertwined "GR" storekeeper's mark on the right side of the buttstock. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark patina, some pitting at breech partially obscuring one proof. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and functions well. Stock shows scattered marks from use and a very small chip forward the front lock tang. Stock has a later oil finish. Iron ramrod appears to be a period American blacksmith forged ramrod.
