Rare and sought after cased 1851 Thuer conversion revolver. Of all of the factory conversions this is the rarest and most desirable. The top barrel flat has a Hartford single line address "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA". The barrel assembly and cylinder have British proof marks on them. Naval battle scene on the cylinder is sharp and crisp. Engraved on the brass back strap is "L.H.G. YOUNG". Records show that Young was a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery 24th Brigade. This gun has matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and the last three numbers on the cylinder. One piece walnut grip. Gun comes in the correct English Oak case with Colt label and is baize lined. It contains the revolver, a combination nipple wrench/screwdriver, bullet mold, an empty tin of .36 caliber Thuer cartridges, 2 tins of percussion caps, and all the Thuer loading fixtures (tools). CONDITION: Gun has been cleaned to a gunmetal gray with some hints of blue in the protected areas. The brass trigger guard and back strap still have some of the silver plating on them. The hammer has some case color on the back and right side. The gun functions and locks up tight and indexes fine. The screws have not been molested. An extra coat of varnish has been applied to the grip. The bore is good with some light pitting in the lands and grooves. The case is in very good condition with just a few dings and dents from storage and handling. This cased Colt Thuer conversion is featured in 2 books: "Colt Conversions and Other Percussion Revolvers" by R. Bruce McDowell and "Colt 1851 and 1861 Navies and Conversions" by Robert M. Jordan and Don W. Geri.
