(A) EARLY OPEN TOP MEDIUM FRAME COLT LIGHTNING SLIDE ACTION RIFLE
Dates to 1886. This was the last year for the open top made with no dust cover, 1st type rifle and the third year of production featuring the full but shortened (25") octagon barrel, full tube magazine, dovetailed silver blade front sight, semi buckhorn rear sight, blue finish, walnut stock with rifle butt plate and checkered two piece walnut forearm. Barrel exhibits the proper Colt legends along with the Colt pony on left side of frame. CONDITION: Very good to fine with note to the 25" barrel. Frame retains flashes of blue but basically now a soft patina. Barrel retains 80% blue exhibiting overall high edge wear and light handling. The tube has drifted to patina. Stock is fine and solid displaying sundry dings and light finish loss. The forearm is fine retaining the sharp checkering and no breaks. Mechanically sound retaining a well defined frosted bore.
