This exceptionally attractive Colt pocket was manufactured in 1858. Brilliant high polished blue barrel with hand engraved Old English script "Saml Colt" address. Engraved in the Gustave Young style with nicely shaded foliate scroll. Case hardened frame is also engraved with nice tight scroll, the "COLTS / PATENT" hand engraved on the left. Even the screw heads and wedge are engraved. Hammer has the usual wolf head engraved on each side. The 5-shot cylinder is rollmarked with a sharp stagecoach holdup scene. Smooth 1-piece ivory grips with engraved, silver plated straps. Matching numbers observed throughout, the frame and straps with a "I" below indicating ivory grips. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel retains the majority of its bright factory blue with some thinning, especially along the high edges and cleaned oxidation spotting over the front of the address. Cylinder retains strong traces of blue with freckling. Bright flashes of case color are visible on the frame and loading lever. Grip straps retain the vast majority of their nicely toned silver which has worn to brass at the high edges. Grips have a pleasant mellow patina. Very good bore with a few cleaned spots. Crisp mechanics. Cylinder pins show heavy wear. A very handsome engraved Pocket.
