Lot #3285:
(A) FINE CONDITION TRIPLETT & SCOTT SWIVEL BREECH 22" CARBINE.
This seven round swivel breech loading carbine was made by the Meriden Mfg. Co. in 1864-1865 only. Production of this 22" carbine is estimated at 2000 units. The co-founder of this company was Charles Parker of Parker Brothers shotgun fame. It features a round barrel, dovetailed front sight, folding ladder rear sight, single band, case color frame, walnut stock with swivels on toe and heel along with matching forearm. The Triplett patent legend is found on upper tang. Meriden legend is stamped on left side of frame. CONDITION: Very good to fine. These weapons were notorious for breakage at the wrist, usually severe with missing pieces. This example shows the original wood with only some very tight hairlines. Stocks are solid showing some minor dents and impressions. All metal is a soft patina. Case colors have darkened and patterned out. Even the frame screw retains much of its peacock finish. Mechanically sound with an almost mirror bright bore. Very hard to find in this condition.
