Approximately 43000 of this model were produced between 1863 through 1865, the majority for the US Government. Features the round barrel, dovetailed front sight, small folding ladder rear sight, single barrel band, case color frame and hammer with bright blue block, upper tang and lever. Frames has the usual saddle ring and bar. The walnut stock has a crisp "RKW" cartouche for Captain Robert Henry Kirkwood Whiteley on the left side along with "JWB" for James W. Boult on comb. Buttplate is iron and stock has a swivel. The are proper Burnside legends stamped on receiver breech and side plate. There is an "MM" sub inspector stamp on barrel breech and other sundry sub inspector stamps. Matching numbers on block and frame. CONDITION: Excellent. The frame, hammer and side plate still retain at least 40%. Block and lever retain generous nitre blue. Barrel is a smooth blue-patina crisp blend. Stocks are excellent with minor impressions. Mechanically sound with a bright bore.
