This was the last of the line for the Trapdoor models. This example is dated 1892 in the SWP (Sam Porter) cartouche on left side of stock along with the proof P at base. The block is stamped "US MODEL 1884". The rear sight is a Model 1884 Buffington rifle model with standard post front. The improved rod bayonet is intact and this serial number falls right into the middle range for these rifles. Rifle has the standard full length walnut stock, double swivels at muzzle end and swivel attached to trigger guard. The butt plate has the trap and is stamped US with additional rack stamp of 13 over 14. CONDITION: Fine. The case color on low arch black has patterned out. The hammer and lock plate are a soft grey with strong legends. The barrel is a smooth homogenous blue brown patina. The stock is excellent with minor scattered dings and impressions. The bore is still bright.
